In this lesson, we will focus on Bulgarian vocabulary related to health. Learning these words will be useful in case you need medical attention or want to make an appointment with a doctor in Bulgaria. To start with, let's learn some general health-related vocabulary:

Here's a dialogue to help you practice:

It is also useful to learn the Bulgarian names for different body parts. Here are some examples:

Dialogue time!

  • Person 2: Отдихни си малко. (Take a rest.)
  • Person 1: Благодаря, но сега ме болят и ушите. (Thank you, but now my ears are hurting too.)

Now let's learn some adjectives that describe different symptoms:

болен bolen sick
болнав bolnav unwell
слаб slab weak
изнемогнал iznemognal exhausted
подути poduti swollen
гаден gaden nauseous
възпален vuzpalen inflamed

Let's use these adjectives in another dialogue:

  • Person 1: Спричина на тази гадна настинка, усещам се много слаб. (Because of this nasty cold, I feel very weak.)
  • Person 2: Възползвай се от възможността да почиваш. (Take advantage of the opportunity to rest.)
  • Person 1: Добре, но очите ми са възпалени. (Okay, but my eyes are inflamed.)
