Common Drinks[edit | edit source]

Armenians love their tea and coffee. Here are some common drinks you might encounter in Armenia:

Tea[edit | edit source]

Tea is one of the most popular drinks in Armenia. Most Armenians drink their tea with a cube of sugar and a slice of lemon. Armenian tea is usually brewed in a samovar, which is a traditional metal container used for heating and boiling water. If you visit Armenia, make sure to try the Armenian tea!

Here's how to order tea in Armenian:

  • Person 1: Վերցրու իմ թեյը, խնձորը և մեծածախսը, խնձորի նմուշը։ (Verjru im teyi, khndzory u mecatsakhsi, khndzori nmunusy.)
  • Person 2: Կարծես թեյը լավ կհավաքի։ (Kartses teyi lav k'havak'i.)

Translation:

  • Person 1: "Please bring me tea, sugar, and a cup, please."
  • Person 2: "I think the tea will taste good."

Coffee[edit | edit source]

Armenians also love coffee, and you can find coffee shops and cafes everywhere in Armenia. Similar to tea, coffee is served with a cube of sugar. Armenians also enjoy a cup of Armenian coffee, which is stronger than the usual coffee. Armenian coffee is made in a special way, and it should be served in a small cup.

Here's how to order coffee in Armenian:

  • Person 1: Խնձորն ու սուրճը շատ չեն տանի։ (Khnzorn u surjy shat chen tani.)
  • Person 2: Համակ կարծես կարող ենք ավելի ընդհանուր բաներ պատվիրել։ (Hamak kartses karogh enk' aveli endhanur baner patvirrel.)

Translation:

  • Person 1: "I don't like the coffee and the tea here."
  • Person 2: "I think we can order better things."

Alcoholic Drinks[edit | edit source]

Armenia is also famous for its wine and brandy. In fact, Armenia is one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world, dating back to 4100 BC. The brandy, called Ararat brandy, is named after Mount Ararat, the national symbol of Armenia.

Here are some alcoholic drinks you might want to try:

գինի (kini) kini Wine
գարիկ (karik) karik Beer
վոդկա (vodka) vodka Vodka
բրանդի (brandy) brandi Brandy

If you're having a conversation with an Armenian, you might hear them say:

  • Person 1: Ինչպե՞ս եք էլ սիրում հավաքել գինի։ (Inchpes ek' sirum havak'el k'ini.)
  • Person 2: Սիրում եմ ինչպես դա բուսի կերտու հետ։ (Sirum em inchpes da busi k'ertu het.)

Translation:

  • Person 1: "How do you like to collect wine?"
  • Person 2: "I like it with cheese."

Armenians also like to drink non-alcoholic and carbonated drinks. Here are some soft drinks you might encounter in Armenia:

Lemonade is perfect for those hot summer days when you need something refreshing to drink. In Armenia, they make lemonade with fresh lemons, sugar, and water. The result is delicious!

Here's how to order lemonade in Armenian:

  • Person 1: Խնձորն ու հնարավորինս լիմոնադ ունենամ։ (Khnzorn u hnaravorins limonad unenanam.)
  • Person 2: Համակ ունենք շատ լիմոնադ։ (Hamak unenq shat limonad.)

Translation:

  • Person 1: "I want water and lemonade, please."
  • Person 2: "We have a lot of lemonades."
