In this lesson, we will learn the names of some fruits in Algerian Arabic. Algerian Arabic has a lot of influence from French and Berber. Thus, some of the fruit names may sound similar to their French or Berber counterparts.

Person 1: كم يكلف الكيلو؟ (Kam yakulf al-kīlo? - How much does a kilo cost?) Person 2: يكلف عشرين دينار للكيلو. (Yakulf ‘ishrīn dīnār lil-kīlo - It costs twenty dinars per kilo.)

- The fig is a popular fruit in Algerian cuisine. It is not only eaten as a fresh fruit, but it is also used in a lot of traditional dishes such as tagines and desserts. - Algeria is known for producing high-quality dates. The city of Biskra, located in the Sahara desert, is particularly famous for its dates. - Watermelons and cantaloupe melons are popular during the hot summer months as they are great for quenching thirst.
