Welcome to the Pennsylvania Polyglot Network!
Pennsylvania has a wide variety of ancestral backgrounds, from Native American cultures, to Asian and European immigration. It is no surprise to find that the English language is affected differently in various parts of the state by the myriad of languages spoken by our ancestors. In much of central Pennsylvania, descendants of the colonial Palatinate German population retain their speech as Deutsch. Pittsburgh even has a variation of the English language (Pittsburghese) of it's own!
Next to the importance of understanding the history and cultures of our ancestors, it is of importance to welcome and embrace the growing number of cultures joining our communities. I encourage everyone to share their knowledge and understanding of language and culture freely with each other so that we can grow as a veritable community.
