Join us for an engaging evening as we explore the complexities of women's rights a century after the inaugural International Women's Day. This unique debate night will feature a fresh format—our "Change-My-View" game—designed to deepen understanding of women's issues and perspectives across diverse cultures.
We warmly welcome newcomers! Just be sure to familiarize yourself with our essential guidelines.
IMPORTANT: Our gathering takes place at a public café, and the staff is not part of our event. To locate us, head directly to the orange seating area by the long wall adorned with numerous photos, or refer to the comments below for additional directions!
KEY DETAILS
Time: We begin with socializing until most attendees and the moderator arrive. The debate is expected to last about 60-90 minutes, followed by some mingling.
Venue: Curzon Aldgate (café/bar section), 2 Canter Way, E1 8PS.
Nearest stations: Aldgate East, Aldgate, Tower Hill/Gateway.
Cost: Attendees are responsible for their own meals and beverages. A variety of options, including tea, milkshakes, drinks, pizza, hot dogs, and snacks (including plant-based choices), are available at the bar.
Hosts: Our hosting team rotates, so each event may feature a different host. Regular members are also available to assist with any inquiries.
HOW TO LOCATE US
We typically gather in the row of orange chairs next to the photo-covered wall. Please wait there until you see a growing crowd or one of our team members recognizes you. For further instructions, check the comments below. Please refrain from asking the cinema bar staff for directions.
DEBATE FORMAT
While we may adjust based on attendance, the format generally resembles a Model United Nations (MUN) debate:
- Introductions and initial thoughts (~15 mins).
- Breakout groups for each question (~25 mins per question).
- Final round of opinions (~20 mins).
EVENT ETIQUETTE
(Essential rules & expectations)
- Focus on debating the topic, not the participants—no personal attacks allowed!
- No mobile phones, interruptions, or bystanding permitted.
- Always adhere to the moderator's or host's instructions and guidelines.
