World Citizens Debate Night | Discuss Social, Cultural & International Issues, Tue, Feb 25, 2025...

IMPORTANT: This debate is primarily tailored for our existing members. However, if you're new, feel free to join us! You may find a more enriching experience by participating in a future event.

NOTE: We gather at a public café, and the staff there are not associated with our event. To locate us, head directly to the orange seating area adjacent to the long wall adorned with numerous photos OR refer to our comments below for additional guidance!

EVENT DETAILS
Time: 7:00 PM for socializing, 7:30 PM for the debate to commence. We will begin once the majority of attendees and the moderator have arrived. The debate is estimated to last between 60 and 90 minutes, followed by some informal mingling.
Location: Curzon Aldgate (café/bar area), 2 Canter Way, E1 8PS
Nearest stations: Aldgate East, Aldgate, Tower Hill/Gateway
Cost: Each attendee is responsible for their own food and beverages. The bar offers a variety of options including tea, milkshakes, drinks, pizza, hotdogs, and snacks (including plant-based choices).
Hosts: Our events feature a rotating team of hosts. Regular members are also available to assist with any questions you may have.

HOW TO LOCATE US
We typically gather in the row of orange chairs next to the long photo wall. Please wait there until you see a group forming or until one of our members identifies you. Additionally, check the comments below for any updated instructions. Please refrain from asking the cinema bar staff for assistance.

DEBATE STRUCTURE
While we may tailor the format based on attendance, the structure usually includes a group discussion similar to Model United Nations (MUN) debates. The typical agenda is as follows:
- Introductions and initial thoughts (~15 mins)
- Group breakout sessions per question (~25 mins per question)
- Concluding round of opinions (~20 mins).

EVENT ETIQUETTE

- Focus on debating the topic, not the individuals involved - personal attacks are not permitted!
- Silence mobile phones, avoid interruptions, and do not stand by without participating.
- Always adhere to the instructions and guidelines set by the moderator or host.

Please note: Like most members, our volunteer hosts may arrive after the official start time due to work commitments. If you arrive early, we greatly appreciate your punctuality!
