In a world dominated by rationalism, it's interesting to note that many people still rely on horoscopes and simplistic personality tests to gain insights into themselves and their relationships. These forms of divination can be found in magazines, social media, and even newspapers!

Psychologists attribute the popularity of horoscopes and personality tests to the Barnum/Forer effect, which suggests that we can all relate to general descriptions because they encompass traits that we all possess. After all, who hasn't felt both introverted and extroverted at different times?

This quest for self-understanding, combined with cognitive biases, the need for social validation, and a touch of narcissism, leads us to seek answers about our "self" from external sources.

Join us for the World Citizens Debate where we will explore the following questions:

  1. Should we abandon horoscopes and simplistic personality tests in favor of more reliable methods of self-development?
  2. What are some examples of more reliable material for self-development?
