Dear Vincent, I was just called by my friend Sim, who posted a commment before my last one. He has no Inernet at home, I have no mobile phone. Since the whole area in the center will be extremely busy tomorrow, because of the Uitmarkt, Sim suggested that you post a 06 mobile phone number here, so that we can trace you, even inside Café de Jaren, with Sim's mobile phone. Or else, perhpas you could post a picture here or at my email address, so that we can spot you visullay.

I hope you still read this. Ciao, Hans

Vincent, I just ahd lunch at Café De Jaren today, and I found out that the big table on the first floor can only be reserved for dinners. For other visits no reservations are possible, and the whole first floor is for dinner only after 18.00 hr.

So we'll have to makd do with the ground floor. As I said earlier this weekend the area will be absolutely swamped with people and I hope that the Polyglotters can find each other. Maybe you should hold up a Polyglot sign as in bus tours !!

ciao, a domani

  Hans

Hi Everyone,

I just mailed Leto with the information I put below, because I wasn't sure how to log on to reply here, but I just worked it out :-).

< extract>

My name is Sim, I'm Chinese, and I live in Amsterdam. I'm a passive member of Polyglot, but I just saw the news about the meeting, so I would like to join (I don't speak any French though).

My main language interests are Germanic languages - English, Dutch, German, Danish -  and Sinitic languages - Mandarin and Hokkien (that's a southern "dialect" of Chinese). Besides tha't, I've had some exposure to a few other languages like  Italian, Latin, Malay, Korean.
This may sound like a large list, but in reality, the only languages I speak fluently are English, Dutch, German, and Hokkien and it's only the first 2 that I actually speak well. German and Hokkien I can make myself understood, and I know a lot *about* them.

Dear Vincent,

Why don't you make a reservation for the big table on the first floor. The number is +31206255771. Amsterdam will be extremely busy this weekend, because there is a gigantic theatre festival going on, called the Uitmarkt, the "Out-Market", for which many thousands of visitors from all over Holland will flock to the city.

I don't have too much time that day (already 2 parties )) but I'll try to be there for a short while at least.

The cafes website has some, but not much info, it has the trams one would be best to take. The map isn't really useful )

For people that know Amsterdam but not De Jaren, go from Dam Square to Munt square, right before Munt square to your left you'll see Hotel l'Europe, walk that way and you'll find De Jaren closeby.

Dear Vincent,

Why not meet in the famous Café De Jaren, Doelenstraat 71 Amsterdam? Not far from Dam square

It is a really international place,  they have newspapers and magazines in 8 different languages, two floors, and two outdoor terraces. I would like to join the meeting, but I am not sure I can be back from Utrecht in time.

best regards, Hans
