Instead of stigmatizing the barraquistas, we will highlight the hardships they faced in their daily lives and their crucial contribution as cheap labor to the city's successful economic development.

The barraquismo phenomenon also extended to other parts of the city, giving rise to neighborhoods like Los Cañones, La Perona, El Somorrostro, and more.

In 1957, 100,000 people lived in barracas in Barcelona, with 30,000 of them residing in Montjuïc. This represented nearly 10% of the city's population!
