Join us for an unforgettable adventure as we journey to the stunning Iztaccihuatl National Park, home to two majestic volcanoes: the dormant Iztaccihuatl, rising to 5,230 meters and resembling a sleeping woman, and the active Popocatépetl, which reaches an impressive 5,426 meters. Located just 2.5 hours from Mexico City, this natural wonder is situated in the beautiful State of Mexico.
This day trip is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We will ascend to altitudes between 3,900 and 4,200 meters, allowing ample time for acclimatization. You can tailor your experience to your preference, whether that means soaking in the breathtaking scenery, breathing in the fresh mountain air, or opting for a more vigorous hike toward the Izta volcano.
Our adventure includes a stop at the historic Paso de Cortés, named after the famed Hernán Cortés who traversed this pass in 1519 after the battle of Cholula. He and his men marched toward the Valley of Mexico and the city of Tenochtitlán to confront the Aztecs and their emperor, Moctezuma. There are tales—some disputed—that a few of Cortés' men scaled Popocatépetl, descended into its crater, and retrieved sulfur to produce gunpowder.
Throughout this excursion, we will delve into the rich history and natural beauty of the State of Mexico. For more insights, check out our travel blog on Iztaccihuatl and Popocatépetl National Park: Day Trip to National Park and Volcanoes Iztaccihuatl and Popocatépetl.
