Join us for an unforgettable experience at the stunning Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, known as 'El Rosario'.
The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, a designated World Heritage Site, serves as a crucial over-wintering habitat for millions of monarch butterflies. Nestled in the picturesque Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt's pine-oak forests, this breathtaking reserve is located approximately 100 km (62 miles) northwest of Mexico City, straddling the borders of Michoacán and Mexico State. Each year, countless butterflies migrate to this haven from October to March, occupying just a small portion of the vast 56,000 hectares of protected land. The biosphere's mission is to safeguard not only these magnificent butterflies but also the rich ecosystems they rely on.
Prepare for a scenic uphill trek lasting about 1 to 1.5 hours. We’ll take our time to acclimatize to the altitude of 3000 meters while soaking in the breathtaking views of the forest and the delicate Monarch butterflies. For those who prefer, horseback riding options are available.
To ensure seamless arrangements, please make your payment 5 to 7 days prior to the tour date. This will help us coordinate the appropriate transport based on the number of participants.
The cost for this incredible journey is 1150 Mexican Pesos. This fee covers private transportation for the group, an experienced driver, a dedicated coordinator, and entrance to the Butterfly Sanctuary.
We'll be picking up participants at Etiopia and Angel de la Independencia.
