Discover the fascinating Cerro de La Estrella, one of the six remarkable archaeological sites in Mexico City, located just 40 minutes from the historic downtown area. This stunning site lies in the southern part of the city and is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

The Cerro de la Estrella archaeological site and national park offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Mexico City from the summit of an extinct volcano. Established in 1938, the park originally spanned 1,100 hectares; however, urban expansion has reduced its size to under 200 hectares. The site derives its name from the Hacienda de la Estrella, a colonial-era estate situated on the hill's slopes.
Cultural Heritage: Aztec.

Historical Context: 900 – 1521. The areas surrounding the hacienda have been inhabited since ancient times, with the site gaining prominence for hosting the New Fire ceremonies, which symbolized the renewal of the sun at the end of its cycle. These significant events occurred every 52 years, with notable ceremonies celebrated in 1351, 1403, 1455, and 1507, until the fall of Tenochtitlan halted the fifth celebration.
