Mixquic, recognized as one of Mexico City's 21 Barrios Mágicos, is renowned for its mesmerizing Day of the Dead festivities. The cemetery comes alive with candlelight and vibrant floral decorations as locals honor the spirits of their departed loved ones on the magical night of ‘Alumbrada’ on November 2nd.

However, a trip to Mixquic is enchanting at any time of the year. You’ll have the opportunity to explore its stunning monastery, featuring a lovely rose garden and significant archaeological artifacts, all nestled beside its expansive cemetery. Stroll through the quaint streets adorned with beautiful murals, many celebrating Día de Muertos, while you discover the nearby channels and chinampas, reminiscent of Xochimilco, and indulge in the delectable local cuisine.

Tlahuac, located nearby, offers its own charm with another remarkable monastery, a lively market, and additional channels and chinampas. Don’t miss the intriguing local regional museum, which houses three exquisite pre-Hispanic ovens shaped like masks (please note that visiting times are irregular).

Both towns are conveniently situated within the Mexico City limits, approximately 2 to 2.5 hours south of the historic city center, depending on traffic conditions.

The cost for this excursion is 950 pesos, which includes transportation and guided tours.
