Nestled within the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this sanctuary is home to the over-wintering habitats of the monarch butterfly population. Located in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt pine-oak forests ecoregion, on the border of Michoacán and Mexico State, just 100 km (62 miles) northwest of Mexico City, this reserve is a true marvel of nature. Every year, millions of butterflies make their way to this sanctuary. From October to March, these mesmerizing creatures grace only a fraction of the 56,000 hectares of the reserve. The biosphere's mission extends beyond protecting the butterfly species; it also aims to preserve their precious habitat.

Embark on a scenic uphill walk, lasting approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Take your time to acclimate to the high altitude (3000 meters) and immerse yourself in the breathtaking views of the forest and the enchanting Monarch Butterflies. For those who prefer a more leisurely journey, horses are available for assistance.
