Join us for an exciting adventure exploring the vibrant Nochebuena / Poinsettia flower market, enchanting viveros (greenhouses), and the breathtaking Chinampas (islands) in Xochimilco, Mexico City. This event will take place on Sunday, November 26, 2023, starting at 8:00 AM.

Discover the fascinating history of the Nochebuena flower, which was originally cultivated by the Aztecs for medicinal purposes. Over time, it has become synonymous with the Christmas season and is widely used as a festive decoration. In the Nahuatl language, it is known as Cuetlaxóchitl.

Please note that this unique experience is not located near the popular boat trips in Xochimilco. Instead, we will take you off the beaten track to a hidden gem.

Our adventure begins with a scenic guided walk lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Along the way, you will immerse yourself in the beauty of the Chinampas and Channels, where the Nochebuena flowers are cultivated. Learn about the historical and modern significance of this iconic flower, as well as the fascinating story behind the creation of the Chinampas and Channels in prehispanic times. Enjoy breathtaking views of agricultural fields, picturesque bridges, and the vibrant colors of the flowers.

After the walk, we will visit a traditional flower market and nearby plant nurseries, offering even more opportunities for stunning photos and unforgettable memories. Additionally, you can indulge in delicious local cuisine at one of the many traditional food stalls.

The Chinampas, Viveros, and Flower market are located within the Mexico City limits, on the outskirts of Xochimilco. The journey from the historical city center of Mexico City takes approximately 1.5 hours, depending on traffic.
