Mixquic, one of Mexico City's 21 Barrios Magicos, is renowned for its vibrant Day of the Dead ceremonies. Experience the enchantment as the entire cemetery comes alive with flickering candles and vibrant floral decorations. On the night of 'Alumbrada' on November 2nd, witness the locals welcoming the souls of their departed loved ones. But the magic of Mixquic extends beyond this annual event. Explore the stunning monastery with its captivating rose garden and archaeological treasures. Wander through the charming town, admiring the captivating murals, some of which pay homage to Día de Muertos. Don't miss the chance to explore the nearby channels and chinampas, similar to Xochimilco, and indulge in the local gastronomy.

Tlahuac, a neighboring town, offers its own unique charm. Visit the impressive Monastery, browse the colorful market, and discover more enchanting channels and chinampas. Don't forget to explore the intriguing regional museum, which houses fascinating pre-Hispanic ovens shaped like masks (availability may vary due to irregular opening times).

Both towns are conveniently located within Mexico City's limits, approximately 2 to 2.5 hours south of the historic city center, depending on traffic.
