Exploring Tezcutzingo / Baños de Nezahualcoyotl (archeological site), Sat, Jun 24, 2023, 6:45 AM

Join us on an incredible journey to the lesser-known archeological site of Tecutzingo, also known as Baños de Nezahualcoyotl, located only 1.5 hours away from Mexico City in the State of Mexico. This site is a beautifully conserved wonder that offers a great hiking experience, with a 3-hour walk around and up the mountain, showcasing the main temple, archeological findings, and scenic flora and fauna.

Los Baños de Nezahualcóyotl is a monumental construction built in 1431. It features fountains, stairways, canals, and sculptures with excellent stone carvings, complemented by masonry works that reflect the engineering applied to the construction of a hydraulic system that supplied water to the site and the towns close to it. The Baño de Xóchitl, El Baño del Rey, El Trono del Rey, and El Baño de las Concubinas are some of the site's highlights, combining stone and masonry.

Nezahualcóyotl, the genius and “King Poet,” was a scholar, philosopher (tlamatini), warrior, architect, poet, and ruler (tlatoani) of the city-state of Texcoco (1402 – 1472). The baths and gardens of Nezahualcóyotl are testimony to the high cultural development that he achieved for his people, and an amazing place to explore, with breathtaking views all around.
