The use depends on the action that falls directly on the subject.
1. Actions that affect the subject itself. Examp; Lavarse las manos, vestirse
2. Routines or daily habits. Examp: Me levanto a las 7 de la mañana, me baño antes de desayunar.
3. Emotions or mental states. Examp: Me siento feliz, me aburro fácilmente entre otros

Sandiaz explained it quite well. 1) It’s used when the verb is the subject or on a whole action that people do. For instance: lavarse las manos (=washing hands), 2) se vende (=for selling). 3) Be careful with this one: me corro = I come (sexual connotation), corro/yo corro = I run. Me voy = I go out from here, voy/ yo voy = I go to. Se fue = he/she went from here. It was = fue/era.
