Does the Russian word for "gift" "dar" have a Greek etymology? The word for "gift" in Greek is "doro", as in "Dorothy" or "Theodore" for example. Bon, very random I know, but I'm curious.

KostyaraOctober 2015 According to the dictionary russian "дар" descended from greek "δῶρον" [dɔ᷇ː.ron] which has the same meaning. Also greek "δῶρον" has more ancient source in sanskrit which meant "give". You can find word "dar" in the most slavic languages. |
