The V2 rule in Norwegian

When you are trying to learn Norwegian there are a few rules you should know.

One of them is called or nicknamed the V2 rule. 

What this rule says is that the Verb og Verbal(what you or something is doing) is (almost) ALWAYS the second part of the sentence.

Examplesentence: Yesterday I painted my house. (Verbal in Bold, Adverbial in Yellow, nouns in blue). 

(I går) (malte) (jeg) (huset mitt) <-- Yesterday I painted my house.

or

(Jeg) (malte) (huset mitt) (i går) <-- This sentence means: I painted my house yesterday).

Notice how the verbal is second in each of these. Now we're taking it up a notch with the sentence: "Today I am going to paint more". Now the error I see a lot of people doing is writing the sentence in norwegian out like this:

(I dag) (jeg) (skal) (male) (mer)

This is unfortunately wrong. Notice that there are two verbal. This is possible in Norwegian.

The correct order of the words here are either

1) (I dag) (skal) (jeg) (male) (mer)

or

2) (Jeg) (skal) (male) (mer) (i dag)

Notice that it doesnt matter if "jeg" or "i dag" is starting the sentence. When an adverbial introduces a sentence it is called an Adverbial sentence and when a noun starts a sentence it is called a noun sentence.
