Question about उठता

In the 1983 movie Damini, there is this (apparently famous) sentence:

जब ये ढाई किलो का हाँथ जब किसी को पड़ता है न, तो आदमी उठता नहीं, उठ जाता है

My question is about the 2nd half of the phrase: उठता नहीं, उठ जाता है. I understand it means something like "doesn't get up, he goes away (i.e., dies)" and is some sort of play (a pun, maybe?) on the verbs उठना and जाना. Can someone please explain how that works?

Thanks.

उठ जाता है means, not only doesn't get up but literally says : he / she DIES, such a solid BLOW KILLS HIM. उठना = to get up / wake up / to ERECT (PUN), जाना.= TO GO (it's simple) If u split it जा ना. then it's GO AWAY (not simply GO), Is't clear ? Need more details ? Hey, kyaa aap Hindi may sambhaashan kar sakate ho ?
