Can anyone tell me exactly how to use “את”? I feel like sometimes I know how to use it, but at other times I don’t. 🤷🏽‍♀️

so... there’s definite nouns and indefinite nouns. “את” is used in a sentence before an object that’s a definite noun.

Definite nouns. They are typical nouns that have ”ha-” before them. or the name of a person or a place. or, a pronoun referring to somebody.
קראתי ספר vs קראתי את הספר
אני אוהב חתולים vs אני אוהב אותך/אני אוהב את ישמעאל
בניתי עיר vs בניתי את לונדון

I guess you can think of “את” as an integral part of all sentences that have an object, and think of the act of removing of “את” as the equivalent of the act of adding ”a/an” to a sentence.

or for sentences like this, ”אני אוהב חתולים”, the equivalent of adding ”all” to the sentence in English.
