Guys! please, can somebody explain me what the difference between these phrases : familiar to somebody , familiar with somebody, and be familiar with something? Thanks in advance!

"Familiar to" means that something is recognizable and "familiar with" means to be well informed and know thoroughly about.

That man looks familiar to me. Does he look familiar to you too?
His work is familiar to millions of people.

I am familiar with his research.
Are you familiar with the problems that commonly arise?
