Present: She "is" sick because she didn't wear a hat
She "got" sick because she didn't wear a hat.
Past: She "was" sick because she didn't wear a hat.
Sick / Ill can be interchanged

You could say " She got sick because she didn't wear a hat" or "she fell ill because she didn't wear a hat"
