I'd use "solitude" to describe someone (sitting for example) somewear (on a top of a hill) alone.
And I'd use "lonly" to say that someone feels lonly and maybe need someone around.
So "lonly" is more like a mental condition, while "solitude" is an adjective to describe that someone's alone.
Thats how I understend it, but I'm not 100% sure, that's why I decited to ask :-)

AussieInBgMarch 2023 Both solitude and loneliness are about the state of being without people. However, they differ significantly in meaning. ”Solitude” is about being by yourself because you want to be away from people and/or being alone does not cause psychological distress. Sitting on top of a hill by yourself because you climbed the hill to get away from everyone could be described as solitude. Generally, it has a neutral or even positive meaning. ”loneliness” is a psychological condition that you feel when you want to be with people but there is not anyone to be with. Generally, it has a negative meaning. |
