They aren’t the same, ”to resume” is when you stop doing something and later go back to do it again starting from exactly where you left... Say you are watching a movie, press pause and go grab a snack, come back and press play button; in this case you are ”resuming” the movie.

”To pick up”, although it can also be used as a for of resuming, as in "you are picking up the movie from where you paused it", it is more accurate to say it meas "to collect", "to lift" or "to grab" something with your hands; let's say you left your clothes on the floor, your wife will come and yell at you: ”pick it up MF I’m not your servant”
