![]() | AussieInBgFebruary 2022 A profitable industry is one which makes a larger profits relative to its size than a different industry. Say, for example, in a particular country, industry A is worth $ 1 billion and industry B is worth $ 3 billion (A or B could be the oil industry, education sector and so on). Industry A makes $200 million per year profit and industry B makes $ 300 million per year. In this case, the yearly profit of industry A is 20% and industry B is 10%. Because industry A has a higher rate of profit than industry B, then we say: ”Industry A is a more profitable industry than industry B”. This is in spite of Industry B making more profit - $300 million - than industry A - $ 200 million. It’s all about the relative size of the profit. |

AussieInBgFebruary 2022 ”profitable” by itself means ”able to make a profit”.
However the collocation ”profitable industry” and similar such collocations have a very specific meaning. This collocation covers specific industries, not individual companies which are active in that industry.
prueksaFebruary 2022 It is depending your basic of premise. Don’t forget to think about the industry classification, trends, and so forth. In my opinion, both companies are profitable on the basic of premise that both makes profits.
