AussieInBgJanuary 2022 The first difference is that chronology with the meaning ”a series of events in time in the past” is used in both British and American English whereas the word ”timeline” is primarily American English for this and was an invented American word. From what I’ve seen, ”chronology” is still used in preference to ”timeline” in formal American English. ”Chronology” does not get used to describe ”a series of events in time in the future, often planned”. ”Timeline” is used like this in American English. ”Chronology” also gets used to describing the science of arranging a sequence events in their temporal order, such as in history or geology. Timeline doesn’t. |
