![]() | kso89April 2017 We don't have different words for "you" in English the way that you do in Spanish, so formality is expressed a bit more subtly. For example, in conversation with my friends, I'd answer a yes or no question with "Yep" or "Nope"; when speaking with my employer, however, I'd respond with a "Yes, sir (or ma'am)" or "No, sir (or ma'am)". I'd use much more slang with friends and speak more properly with elders/people in authority/etc, and I'd use fewer one-syllable responses in a formal context. |
