Hi,

Here is when to use the Present perfect and the Simple past wink (source EF)

- Use the Present perfect when the time of an action is not specified.

- Use the Simple past when details about the time or place that an action occured are requested.

Examples:

Present perfect Simple past
"I have lived in Paris." "I lived in Paris in 2003."
"They have eaten French food." "They ate French food yestderday."
"Have you seen the 'Amélie Poulain' movie?" "Where did you see the 'Amélie Poulain' movie?"
"We have been to France." "When did you go to France?"

I hope this helps laugh
