I just saw a sentence in a newspaper but I don't know how to explain it.

Hello, as I just said, I saw a sentence in a newspaper : "Any bipartisan spirit might prove short-lived"
It conerns Obama's reelection and an hypothetical agreement between Obama and Republican.
 How can i explain this sentence please ? ^^
