    • Nelson Mandela has recently died at his home in Johannesburg,following a long illness.
    • The announcement of Mandela's death was made by current South Africa's president,Jacob Zuma.
  • He had been receiving intensive medical care for his lung infection after the three month in hospital.
  • In a statement on South African national tv , mr Zuma said: Mr Mandela will receive a full state funeral and it's likely to take place next saturday.
  • He said many touching things about Nelson Mandela:"Our nation has lost its greatest son,we want to express our sadnees at this time,but no words can adequately describe this enormous loss to our nation and to the world.We thank his devotion to humanity and humanitarian causes,we thank him for his sacrifices to our freedom".On behalf of my family,may i offer my deepest condolences to his friends and to his family.
  • Mr Zuma wasn't the only one who said really touching things about him,Obama said:"He was an example for my life!".
  • Nelson Mandela was born in 1918 in the Eastern Cape.
    • He had been fighting for all his life against apartheid,racism,poverty and inequality.
    • In 1962 police arrested him convicted of incitement and sabotage and in 1990 he was freed for prison.
    • In 1993 he won a nobel peace prize and in 1994 he was elected first black president in a multiracial eletion.
