  • "Essen" is a chain of hypermarkets in Tatarstan.
  • It was founded in 2003 (officially on October 25) by Baryshev Leonid and Maheev Vadim.
  • The idea of the store had been brought by Leonid Baryshev from Spain by visiting a hypermarket of the French network «Carrefour».
    • After a lot of studies of experience of others and solving all organizational matters, the partners began to create a chain.
  • The first store named "100 best goods" was opened on May 15, 2003 in Elabuga.
    • The second store was opened a year later in Almetevsk with the same name.
    • Before opening of the next hypermarket in Naberezhnye Chelny all of them were renamed in Essen (from German “food”).
  • Hypermarket in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny was opened in 2005.
  • This year was a breakthrough for the company - 4 open hypermarkets in 4 cities of the Republic of Tatarstan.
  • Due to the rapid expansion of the chain, management of "Essen" decided to invite experts who have studied the network «Carrefour».
  • Using their assistance in 2006, a mall was built in Nizhnekamsk which became the largest store in the Essen chain at that time.
  • At the beginning of 2011 in different cities of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Udmurt Republic, Kirov region, there operates 18 hypermarkets in the trading format of Cash & Carry and 8 discounters "Essen Express".
  • ESSEN is the first chain in the Republic of Tatarstan , which began trading in the format of Cash & Carry.
  • This format provides low prices to customers with minimum costs of processing of goods.
  • The main advantage of the format is reduction of the cost of storage space by placing the stock in a hypermarket itself.
  • Thus, the work in this format allows you to move into the sphere of retailing with all benefits and features specific to wholesaling trade.
  • Due to this the very conception of modern and efficient trade, the company became a leader in the market all over Tatarstan.
  • Essen became one of the first hypermarkets which realized the concept ONE STOP SHOPING CENTRE in Tatarstan.
