Languages in Russia
- Today I’d like to talk about the languages are used in Russia.
- I was born in Russia and my mother tongue is Russian and for most people in my country as well.
- Russian is official language and it is used in the government, media, and education.
- In addition, Russian is the 6-th in the list about the number of speakers.
- However, it isn’t the only one language used in Russia.
- We also have many others languages in the country.
- Some of them are very similar with Russian and some are totally different.
- Nowadays in Russian Federation there are more than 193 nationalities which speak in about 277 languages and dialects.
- It is interesting to notice that in Russia we have more languages than nationalities and some of language have less than 100 native speakers.
- These languages can be divided into several groups like Turkic, Slavic, Mongolian , Dagestan , Finno-Ugric.
- I should like to get a nearer view of some of them.
- For a start the Turkic group includes Tataric, Baskir, Chuvash ,Turkmen and etc. The almost all are spoken in the East side of the country and originate from Turkic language.
- The biggest group is the Slavic and it consists of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian.
- Some regions even have mix from all of them.
- They are most widely-spoken in the European part of the Russia.
- Habitually that people from the Slavic group can understand each other.
- Likewise some European languages came into common use in Russia such English, Spanish, French and German.
- Of course, all of them is the influence of the history.
- To finish I’d like to add some words about slang in Russian what local people use in dairy life.
- One interesting thing is that we use a lot in our speech diminutives and call many thigs like it suppose to be very small and cute.
- For example a dog in Russian is “собака”[sabaka] but we very often say “собачка” [sabachka] what means doggie .
- Our culture is rich in obscene words as well and surely I don’t recommend you to use them but to know their meaning is important if you want to participate and to be in any conversation.
