How David Rochefort is leaving screens behind to work outdoor
- More people are quitting their jobs, and it could shake the world of work forever.
- For Mr Rochefort, the coronavirus pandemic has forced his relationships with work.
- Before coronavirus arrived, he worked in IT in Bristol.
- It was a secure, well-paid, office role, but he found that his enthusiasm was dwindling and he was mentally exhausted.
- He says, looking back, he became stressed and wired, and not want to get up in the morning.
- When the lockdown was announced, Mr Rochefort had no interaction with his co-workers.
- Realising that he would like to get a job working outdoors and to leave the screen behind.
- So, he started volunteering at a wetland wildlife reserve.
- After some months of working for free he was given a paid, entry-level role as an aviculturist.
- He also often raise young hatchlings, a task requiring enormous amounts of time since most chicks must be fed regularly and frequently, but today he never look back.
- Mr Rochefort has had to take a substantial career change, as a number of studies have shown in the UK.
- Here, three fifths of workers intend to switch to a different job as a result of Covid, according to a report earlier this year by insurance group Aviva.
- There is a similar situation in the US, where a half of all workers wanted to make a change in career.
