  • Dacha

    • Have you ever heard about Russian phenomenon called dacha?
    • Dacha is something dear, cozy, connected with childhood and summer, something totally Russian.
    • In general dacha is a country house for an urban family, which doesn’t use as permanent residence.
    • It could be a plain plywood house on 6 acres of land or a capital house on big areas.
    • Often there are grown fruit and vegetables.
    • In my childhood during summer period we spent almost all free time on dacha, of course more working then resting.
    • Although initially dacha appeared as place for resting.
    • The word dacha is derivative Russian verb davat’ (to give).
    • And indeed at first they were given out, at the beginning to aristocracy by king, later by government to usual people.
    • So the main aim also changed, from rest to growing food.
    • Now dachas aren’t given out, you can buy or rent it.
    • Mostly dachas now are destiny of old people.
    • Nevertheless I also wanted to buy dacha.
    • And recently I’ve done it!
    • My dacha is in a small seaside town, there is a small pretty house and grass to the waist.
    • But before it becomes a cozy place for rest, there is lots of work ahead.
    • I’d like to make at the house a fireplace, to ennoble the site - plant fruit trees, a lawn, make a hedge around the perimeter and some other ideas.
