      It depends on context. Generally, it is ”a bigger time than usual”.¶


      For example, if something takes 5 minutes to do, yet it took 1 hour - then 1 hour is ”a long time”. If this took 2 minutes, then it is not ”a long time” but ”a short time”.¶

      Similarly, if an average teaching career is 10 years, then someone who has taught for 20 years ”has taught for a long time. Someone who has taught only for 1 year ”has taught for a short time”. ¶
