  • TLDR

    • Before answering a post from the forum, or answering a question, please check two things: - The post or question date, - And the poster's last connection date.
  • Why is that important?
  • Let's take an example such as this post: http://polyglotclub.com/language/english/post/6712/ It's dated Dec 06, 2008.
    • And the original poster (http://polyglotclub.com/member/BHaack) didn't log in since Jul 02, 2011.
  • More than 2 years, at the time of this writing.
  • Do you think she's read any replies since then?
  • Now, if you reply, what will happen?
  • Well, first you will waste your time, but that's your call, and all other people won't care.
  • But, more importantly, you will bring up that post to the top of the forum.
  • And the more recent posts, the fresh ones from active members, will get down the list.
  • Basically, you will bury the living under the dead.
  • Doing that on all internet forums will, at least, make you stand out as a totally unexperienced user, a newbie (or noob for short.) And that's okay, I mean, weren't we all?
  • Well, you're actually much less of a noob if you've read through all this long post.
  • Now, what can you do if your question has been buried without getting any replies, and you feel like you really need one?
  • I can see two options: - Forget about it, and rephrase it in a new post.
  • - Or reply to your own question.
  • But not too soon, not too often, and in a polite way, such as: "I'm sorry to up my post, but my exam is next week, and I could really use some help.
  • Thanks!" Another kind of posts you might feel like upping is those containing valuable information.
  • For instance, you just learned something that has always puzzled you, you see lots of people making the same mistake time and again, and you find most people should read that post.
  • Thanks for reading this long post.
  • Feel free to comment or ask questions below.
  • Oh, by the way, T.L.D.R. stands for "Too Long, Don't Read."
