  • Antenna technology

  • Due to continuous increase of information traffic rate and its volume to be transmitted through wireless communication systems interest in modernization and improvement of printed antennas of various kinds remains topical [1], [2].
  • Among this type of radiators the quasi-Yagi antennas are of particular interest because of its broadband characteristics, good radiation performances, and ability to be reconfigurable [3–5].
    • One of the modern trends in terms of multiple-band antenna design is realization on single-unit board of two or more section working frequency bands with acceptable impedance matching and polarization purity through each of them [6–7].
  • It seems that all the above-mentioned excellent discoveries related to the quasi-Yagi antennas [3–7] are based on the center-fed dipole (Fig.
  • 1(a)) as the driver element.
  • These dipoles are excited by the corresponding balancing units (baluns) which are placed near the adjacent input nodes of the energized dipoles.
  • This leads to a discernible growing complexity of the arrangement of the antennas’ central region and to multiple bends and twists of the printed microstrip lines near the above-mentioned adjacent nodes which are placed in the immediate nearness.
  • The presence of such bends and twists leads to increasing the reflection coefficient (return loss) of the antenna, to polarization purity deterioration of radiation, and to decreasing the gain of the whole antenna through the either section frequency channel
