It’s this time of the year again.
Some people love it, others hate it.
As if you had a side to pick.
And, as far as I’m concerned, I have to admit that I’m particularly fond of it.
The cold is back, and after deeper thought it never really leaves the country, but in winter, it is particularly strong.
We can even wish for snow, at least if it doesn’t turn into mud after the passers-by shuffled in it.
This morning, I’m feeling quite lucky: I open my shutter and all I see is white. Everywhere. Everything.
I can even see some condensation upon my window pane as I sigh with delight, despite the light that stings my sleepy eyes.
I walk to my door and go to the living room where my Christmas tree is up.
I can’t help but light it.
I absolutely adore all these sparkling lights.
Red, blue, green, yellow… Added to this, the sweet perfume of the branches of the fir tree captures my sense of smell.
And soon, it’ll mixed with that of my morning coffee.
Back from the kitchen, a mug full of coffee in hand, I sit down on my couch and I switch on the television.
My cat comes to me as I start to sip.
And, with my free hand I pat her and she instantly purrs.
I will never get bored of this feeling in my palm, this sensation of softness, this contact between her fur and my skin.
Neither of the sound of her purring.
She lies on my knees, and then, my attention is brought back on the TV screen.
I zap until I find what I need: I’m afraid to sound too cliché but I don’t know any better thing than a Christmas movie to well start a day.
The movie has just begun, I haven’t missed much of it, and I recognize the opening credits.
The music sounds so familiar to me and I would be lying if I didn’t say that I sing a few notes over it, which must be very awful for my cat’s ears.
