The main advantages of a foreign direct investment in an emerging country is that we would be acting in a new market, which means that we will not find so many competitors, hence, we would have a bigger market niche.

Though, there are also some disadvantages that may arise while penetrating a new market, especially if it is a developed economy.

One of the main drawbacks that I can encounter is the lack of protection in relation to the intellectual property (China is one of the worst countries in that aspect), which can lead not only to struggle with the legislation of the country, but also to an economic loss.
