One semester in Thailand
- Hey everybody, I am currently applying for an exchange program in a thai University.
- In order to complete my application form, I had to write a brief statement explaining my motivation.
- I would really appreciate if you could read what I wrote and help me correct the mistakes I made.
- I really appreciate your help, Thank you!
- My name is Tim XXX and I am currently a student of Thai and Chinese Studies and International Relations at the Insitut National des Langues Civilisations Orientales (INaLCO) in Paris.
- Having already been given the opportunity to participate in an one-year exchange program to Bangkok in 2010, my objective when enrolling at INaLCO was to further deepen my prior knowledge of the thai culture and language.
- My studies helped me acquire a better understanding of the thai society and to learn more about its historic and civilisationnel foundations.
- The intensive language classes allowed me to improve my command of the thai langage so that I am now capable of reading literary texts and news articles as well as understanding radio programs on a diversity of topics in thai.
- Nevertheless, I still find it difficult to read scientific texts written in thai, not only because of the language barrier but also because I sometimes struggle to grasp the thai concepts and scientific references.
- As I would like to pursue my studies in the field of international relations between South-East Asia and Europe, I think that it is indispensable for me to have an in-depth understanding of the thai language and the local cultural codes in order to be able to conduct meaningful research in social sciences related to South-East Asia.
- Studying at Thammasat University would be a great opportunity to achieve my goal of developing my langage skills and of familiarizing with the academic environment and could thus lay a solid groundwork for a further engagement in studies of region.
