  • Please, can you take few minutes to correct my text please :)

    • Explain the origin of the verb « to mirandize » This verb is based on the surname of rapist.
    • Ernesto Miranda has give his surname to a famous arrest in USA : “Miranda Rights”.
    • He confesses after only two hours of questioning that he had kidnapped and raped a young woman.
    • Neverthelesss when he was arrested, he was not told by policers his rights that are stated in amendment number 5.
    • “No person shall (…) be compelled (…) to be witness against himself”.
    • Because of this confession, he incriminating himself.
    • In consequence, Miranda's lawyers pointed out that the police had never told him that he could remain silent if he wished to do so, and that everything that he said could be used against him.
    • Thus is born the verbe “to mirandize”, the name “to get Miranda” and the adjective “Miranda rights”, to describe the procedure to respect by policers.
