  • Corporate attitude

    • In one of the hotels where we slept, we shared the restaurant room with people who attended a company seminar.
    • All the people come from the same firm and know more or less each other.
  • There were people from a lot of different hierarchical ranks.
  • They drank a lot.
  • Some of them were almost drunk.
    • They was yelling, singing very loudly… This situation surprised me because they were there with colleagues who had a much higher position than them.
    • In Europe, it is usual to go out with your colleagues and even to drunk a lot with them.
    • But you do it with colleagues who have the same hierarchical rank as yours or with your immediate superiors but not with some of the “big bosses”.
  • In Europe, even if the working time is over, if you are still with your bosses, you are still expected to have an appropriate attitude, a corporate attitude even if you can be more “laid-back”.
    • But for this Chinese companies, it seemed to be different: once the working time was over they do not have to be professional anymore, they can act as if they were not with their bosses, as if they were with their friends.
    • The “big bosses” were not drunk but a lot of employee were.
  • However, the managers did not seem to be angry against their employees.
    • This situation seemed to be acceptable.
    • After all, it seems logical: once your working time is over, if you are not with clients, if you do not represent the company, why could not you act as if you were not with your colleagues?
    • Because technically, as working time is over, they are not your colleagues anymore.
