Archeological place
- "El Cóporo" is an archeological place near to San José del Torreón, 15 km far away from Ocampo.
- It's one of the most important places in the state.
- The word "Cóporo" comes from a tarasca word that means "Sobre el camino grande".
- Chichimecas-toltecas lived there and they lived from 500 a.C. to 900 a.C.
- To get to "El Cóporo" you have to go by truck and then you can visit seven special places by walking.
- The first place is a house that represents the culture.
- This typical house had a stock where the natives kept their food, it had a room where women could cook and some rooms where they slept.
- In the center of "El Cóporo" there's a ceremonial place where human sacrifices took place.
- These sacrifices were a symbol of adoration to their Gods.
- Also, with sacrifices the chichimecas showed power and control over their enemies.
- There is a place that has four atypical stones, one with the appearance of a monkey, other that looks like a bottle, other that looks like women and the last one with the appearance of a pair of fingers.
