Science
- In order to engage in scientific enquire we must make two important assumptions.
- The first of these assumptions is that the world around us exists outside of our own mind.
- Would those trees, those houses, and those people be there if I weren’t here?
- No experiment can prove that the outside world is more than just a figment of our imagination.
- The second of these assumption is that our perceptions of the outside world are reliable enough to permit us to learn about the outside world.
- Even if there is such a thing as the outside world, how can I be sure that my perceptions of the outside world correspond to the actual outside world?
- Hence, since science must rely on these two assumptions, it can be concluded that science, just like religion, is based on faith.
