• Some people believe that old buildings have negative influence on modern cities` development while others claim that such buildings are priceless for science and history.

• The first thing that should be noted is that old buildings are usually situated in cities` center; modern constructions are built around them.

• It can be illustrated by Irkutsk city where city center looks like an outskirt of the town.

• Narrow streets cannot be widen due to old buildings which take a huge part of this town.

• Wooden houses with back yards take a valuable territory for modern buildings.

• Hence, such kind of people, especially pensioners, cannot preserve their houses in original conditions.

• Neither owners nor authorities take care about historical value of these houses and this irresponsibility affects the architecture of city in general.

• On the other hand, these kinds of buildings are important part of national architecture, culture and history.

• They are a reflection of the knowledge and experience of past generations.

• In specific cases, some of these buildings have a significant scientific value.

• In conclusion, I would say that old buildings should be preserved whatever the cost.

• The authorities of cities should take additional measures immediately in order to keep them for next generation.

• No doubt, modern cities should grow and develop, however they shouldn`t be built on the cultural heritage of the country.
