How to prepare for the TOEFL exam?

The TOEFL is an essential degree if you want to study in an English university. This English exam is one of the most famous and recognized internationally, which is why it is also quite expensive to take it. Many people will tell you it is difficult to pass your TOEFL at once but this is wrong! As with all tests, the most important is to be prepared, know what to expect and most importantly, be self-confident! You should know that in a majority of cases, failure is due to stress during the big day. Follow these tips to pass the TOEFL easily!

Conduct of the test

You should know that the examination lasts 4 hours with 4 steps that will test both your understanding and written and oral expression. Know that for most competitors, the difficulty of the tests will increase, that is go from the easiest to the most difficult. To register, it is advisable to get started three months in advance and visit the TOEFL website.

Reading

Over a period of 60 to 100 minutes, the Reading test asks you to read up to 4 texts of about 800 words (there are different topics). Your goal will be to answer a series of multiple choice questions. Generally, the questions relate to the text information or vocabulary.

Listening

The Listening part is going to test your listening comprehension thanks to audio clips of university courses or conversations between a student and his teacher. You will be entitled to 6 parts of about 5 minutes and will have again to answer a series of questions about what you just heard in 60/90 minutes.

Speaking

After a break of 10 minutes, you're in the 3rd round of the TOEFL. You will need to answer orally to a few general issues then do you read a text or listen to a conversation and then sum it all up, still orally. You will also be asked to answer a problem and find a solution (this concerns the overall school environment). Easy you say? The problem is that you only have 15 seconds to think about it and 45-second to a minute to give your answer! You will not face an examiner but you will only need to respond in a helmet. An examiner will listen to it later and will give you a grade afterwards.

writting

This last part lasts 50 minutes and requires being focused. You will need to write two essays, one of which relates to an article and the second answers a question in 300 words minimum. Each part is scored on 30 points, giving a final total of 120 points in total. There is no specific minimum score required to pass the exam because it depends on the university where you want to go which requires a minimum score.
Between 0 and 15, your level is considered low if you get 15, your level is intermediate and if you get over 15, you can consider your level as high.

What to do?

During the various tests, it happens that you find yourself a bit stuck with some questions, words or text that you do not understand. The first thing to do to easily pass your TOEFL is first of all to have a deep breath and try to relax. Often, it's all about stress, that feeling that makes you lose all your means and forget everything you know. Keep in mind that you are prepared for this exam and there is no reason why you will not succeed! Otherwise, here are a few tips to be sure to pass the four tests.
Regarding reading comprehension, it is important that you do not stay stuck on the words you do not understand. The whole point is not whether you understand every word of the texts but rather whether with a little deduction and your vocabulary, if you can understand the text as a whole. It is useless to attempt to translate every word in your head, just try to understand them. So instead you jump right into the reading, it is advisable to first read the first issue and move forward step by step. Let me explain, in fact, the questions follow the logical order of the text so it is more efficient to first read the first question and the first part of the text that is targeted. Thus, you save time because at least you know on your first read what you are looking for. Similarly, if you do not find the answer to a question, do not stay on top forever, but rather to to the next. You will probably have time to think about it again if you have some remaining time at the end.
For listening comprehension, it is very helpful to take notes during your first listening of the audio recording and as in the case of reading, do not stumble over the words you do not understand. Trust your deduction skills and note the key ideas you hear. The big mistake is to try to write everything you hear because you will be lost very rapidly. As for oral expression, it is certainly one of the most feared test. The most important things to remember are "concentration" and "taking notes"! But beware, do not write complete sentences on your sheets, just write ideas or key words that will help you remember things you wanted to talk about. Be also careful to use the 45 seconds of speech granted to you to have every opportunity to convince the examiner about your level.
Finally, the last step is the writing. The first thing that may complicate your task is the available Qwerty keyboards if you are used to Azery keybords for example. It can seem silly but if you mix yourself in the keys, it can be a real waste of time. For the rest, give free rein to your inspiration and let it go, it's about time! However, do not try to go beyond your capabilities. Use simple and well known sentences with logical connectors that will save you some extra points because it is much appreciated. Also, use the number of words requested and all will be well.
