Marathi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by Marathi people of Maharashtra, India. It is one of the 22 languages of India and has the third largest number of native speakers in India, after Hindi and Bengali.

The Marathi language alphabets are called as मराठी वर्णमाला, मराठी मुळाक्षरे and the Marathi is written in Devnagari, Balabodh (बाळबोध) script.

Without learning the Marathi alphabets you will not be able to learn the Marathi language. Therefore, it is very important to understand the basics of these alphabets first.

You will have to study the 36 consonants (व्यंजन) and the 14 vowels (स्वर) listed in the table below.
