Hi everyone!

In this lesson, you will learn some vocabulary and expressions related to the four seasons in Japanese.

Vocabulary

The vocabulary is summarized in the table below:

ふゆ Fuyu Winter
季節 きせつ Kisetsu Season
雨季 うき Uki Rainy season
乾季 かんき Kanki Dry season

春夏秋冬 しゅんかしゅとう Shunkashuuto The four seasons

note : Shiki is the annual cycle of the 4 seasons. Shunkashuutou (春夏秋冬) refers to the four kanji relating with seasons.

Sentences and quotes

天高く馬肥える秋 / てんたかくうまこゆるあき / Ten takaku uma koyuru aki. The meaning is autumn is a great period for farming.

物言えば唇寒し秋の風 / もの いえば くちびる さむし あき の かぜ / Mono ieba kuchibiru samushi aki no kaze. The meaning is approximatively Speaking without thinking.

一日千秋の思い / いちにちせんしゅうのおもい / Ichi nichi senshuu no omoi. The meaning is feeling each day during like 1000 autumns. (autumn) is rainy and leaves fall and winter come, so we are waiting for summer again... So this could be understand as : time between autumn and summer is long and it will during 1000 times).

春秋の筆法 / しゅんじゅうの筆法 / Shunjuu no Hippou. This quote mixes autumn and spring. It talks about an impartial critique.
